Description
The MSc Global Mental Health course is a combined program provided by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King’s College London (KCL). The program of study intends to provide applicants with skills and knowledge to pledge, develop and supervise mental health programs and/or procedures in less-resource settings, as well as to conduct and critically estimate research on worldwide mental health. These skills and information will make it probable for students to make valued contributions in the fields of research, policy and practice as they relate to the subject of worldwide mental health.
Eligibilities
Applicants must be citizens of one of the following countries:
- Africa: Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa
- South East Asia: Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam
- South America: Nicaragua, Peru
This list would not be altered, and is non-negotiable, and so we are not able to consider candidates from other countries for this specific scholarship scheme.
Candidates from non-English speaking countries (as specified by the Home Office – UKVI) must meet the minimum English Language Requirements (see Band D) if nominated for this funding. Candidates who have been nominated for this funding will be asked to provide proof of English language aptitude by 23:59 (BST) on Wednesday 26 May 2021 for their scholarship application to be considered any further.
Benefits
Each scholarship will cover:
- Full tuition fees at the KCL overseas fee rate; and
- A stipend (living allowance) of GBP 17,400.00; and
- An allowance of GBP 500.00 for MSc project expenses.

Step 1
Submit an application for study for the MSc Global Mental Health program, with all mandatory documents, through the King’s College London online application portal by 23:59 (GMT) on Sunday 14 February 2021.
Step 2
Submit an online scholarships application, choosing this scholarship option from the drop-down menu by 23:59 (GMT) on Sunday 21 March 2021. The scholarship application must contain the following uploaded documents
- Any of the following two:

- Evidence of your application proposal for MSc in Global Mental Health for 2021-21 (This can be a PDF file or screenshot of the submission validation email dated on or before Sunday 14 February 2021);
- Offer Letter from KCL, for 2021-22 MSc Global Mental Health programme;

KCL provides the following guidance: ‘We do not usually invite candidates for interview and so the precision and significance of the information the applicant provides in the personal statement is of substantial importance to us. In precise, we would like the applicant to describe his academic background and any related scientific or research interests, reasons for applying to a specific postgraduate programme and what applicant hopes to gain from the training we offer, and how applicant intends to use the knowledge and skills for his clinical or research determinations.’
- Candidates and their referees must be precise about the applicant’s tasks and accomplishments in the KCL application programme/study application, as these will be used in the decision-making procedure.
