Located in Cassis, France, the Camargo Foundation hosts applicants from around the world for its emerging artist residency program. The candidates must represent 3 categories namely artists, scholars, and thinkers. The program selects 18 individuals or teams after a detailed application process. The program lasts from 6 to 11 weeks and a weekly stipend of USD250 and travel expenses are covered for the participants. The deadline for application is in October every year.

2. Triangle France

Every year in Marseille, France, international artists are called to apply for the free artist residencies in Europe Triangle France residency program. 9 artists are selected for 3 to 4 months. The residents are given a production grant of €1000. They are also provided with studio space, technical support, and assistance in search of materials, techniques, and partnerships. The deadlines to apply vary according to the sessions preferred by the applicants.

3. Akademie Schloss Solitude

In Stuttgart, Germany, the Akademie Schloss Solitude opens its emerging artist residency program and calls international artists from all spheres to join in. It runs for about 6-12 months and takes admissions twice a year. The fellowship offers a monthly grant of € 1,200. Residents must have a M.F.A and three years of artistic work after completion of studies. One of the best free artist residencies in Europe is the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten is an institute in Amsterdam, Netherlands that calls professionals to its residency program. Mostly young artists are encouraged to apply. It accepts 50 participants for one year but the time can be extended if need be. The benefits include studio space, a stipend to contribute to living expenses, and a working budget. The deadline falls in February of every year.

6. Malt AIR Residency

In Denmark, Maltfabrikken in Ebeltoft provides a three-month Malt AIR Residency program. It is open to international emerging artists in September, January, and May. Accommodation, studio space, travel grant, and a monthly stipend of 1,000 euros is given to each selected candidate. The application deadline falls in February.

7. Art Inside Out Residency In Falkenberg Municipality

Sweden holds the Art Inside Out Residency in Falkenberg Municipality. One emerging artist is chosen for 12 weeks to work on the question, “How can inclusive, speculative, and/or critical design and landscape architecture help us to re-think and re-shape land left behind?” The artist receives a stipend of EUR 13,200 and a production budget of EUR 3,800. 8. Intramuros Residency – 100 Days

The 100-day Intramuros Residency is a one of the free artist residencies in Europe located in the center of France in Clermont-Ferrand. Artists and researchers from all over the world are encouraged to apply. The artists can work between September and July according to their own convenience. Their work is shared with local artists to help them grow. A stipend of EUR 4000 is provided with free accommodation, studio space, and travel grants. Application deadline is in February.

9. Bauhaus Lab

The Bauhaus Lab in Dessau, Germany, opens its emerging artist residency every year to bring in new artists who can work on the given topics. The program lasts for three months and eight new artists are selected. The participants are given free studio space and a stipend to manage their house and daily expenses. 10. Nordic Artists’ Centre Dale

The Nordic Artists’ Centre Dale is located in Norway. The residency calls for applications from visual artists, designers, and architects from around the world. The participants can participate for two months, three months, or four months depending on their preference.
