At American University, all admitted students are considered for scholarships for which they are eligible. Scholarships are awarded to students who have excellent academic credentials and exhibit exceptional leadership skills.

Eligibilities
To receive the scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
- Entry Period: The first course required for the Online Merit Scholarship must be taken online at American University. Students who took courses prior to this date regardless of modality or enrollment
status are not eligible to apply. A course is considered to have been taken if a student was enrolled after the add/drop 100 percent refund period. - Enrollment Status: Eligible students must be accepted into the online format of the Online Merit Scholarship by the time they take the first course. Non-degree seeking students are not eligible.
- Academic Performance: Students must remain in good academic standing throughout the program,
retaining a 3.0 GPA or higher and make satisfactory academic progress. - Completion Period: The funds will be applied to the student’s account upon enrollment in the ninth and
tenth course. - Academic Integrity Code: Eligible students must abide by American University’s Academic Integrity
Code to retain their scholarship award.

Application Process
Apply to American University by completing the online application and downloading the letter of recommendation form.
Applicants should submit:
- A statement of purpose
- A completed application
- $55 application fee
- Current resume/CV
- Official transcripts from all academic institutions from which you earned credit
- Letters of recommendation
Process:
- American University will make the Online Merit Scholarship decision and will notify students at the time
they are admitted or shortly thereafter. - Scholarship recipients register for their scholarship courses as normal. American University will apply the
scholarship to the scholarship course(s) as it is/they are taken. - The scholarship will be awarded in the form of waived tuition and applied to the last two courses in the
online MA in Strategic Communication program. - Students will be billed for net balance of tuition after the scholarship has been applied to the final term.
