Description
This need-and-merit-based award distinguishes brilliant foreign undergraduate students from war-ravaged or impoverished areas, who have accomplished academic excellence under problematic circumstances, and who would not be able to attend university without economic support.
The award may be renewed for up to three additional years of undergraduate study or to degree completion – either comes first – provided the applicant achieves reasonable academic standing in the faculty, continue to demonstrate economic need, and maintain their Canadian study permit (student visa).
Eligibilities
To be eligible for the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award, the candidate must:
- Be a foreign student who would be studying in Canada on a Canadian study permit.
- Be graduating or have freshly graduated from a prominent senior secondary school.
- Apply for their first undergraduate degree.
- have to meet UBC’s admission requirements, with general and degree-specific requirements and the English Language Admission Standard.
- validate superior academic accomplishment (achieve all As or equivalent standard) and potential of leadership.
- Belong to a war-torn, governmentally unstable, or economically underprivileged region of the world.
- have accomplished academic excellence under hard circumstances and have no economic means from family or other sources to pursue post-secondary education in their own country (because it is unavailable or unachievable) or outside the country (because it is unaffordable).
Benefits
The worth of the Donald A. Wehrung International Student Award is correlated to the demonstrated economic need of the applicant and appropriate to cover living expenditures with tuition costs for the degree of study.
