Description

Description

As per the estimation by ADB, more than 3 million Thai workers could become jobless because of COVID19. The most vulnerable areas are wholesale, manufacturing, housing, restaurants and retail trade. The impact would be most severe on informal employees, who are estimated to be 54% of the labor force (20.4 million out of 38 million people, 45% among those are women), who are not covered by any scheme of social protection and are unable to work from home. This explains into further 5.2 million poor people in 2020, using the national poverty line of $5.50 per person on daily basis at the 2011 purchasing power parity

Most informal employees have education and basic skills but the opportunities for new employment is very limited. This internship would evaluate the existing condition of informal employees and suggest options for re-employment of those employees. The options would include approvals for sovereign and/or non-sovereign aid to support the transition to new employment for these employees. Precise assessment and attention to women alongside other vulnerable individuals would be a main feature of the internship. Discussion with government and non-governmental organizations will support the intern in preparation of the approvals.
