This need-and-merit-based award distinguishes foreign undergraduate students who validate greater academic accomplishment, leadership skills, participation in student activities, and community service along with recognized success in other key areas.
Eligibilities
To be eligible for the Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award:
- The candidate must be a foreign student who would be studying in Canada on a Canadian study permit.
- Candidate must be entering UBC from a recognized secondary school, college, or university.
- Candidates must be applying for their first undergraduate degree.
- Candidates must meet admission requirements of UBC, including general and degree-specific requirements along with the English Language Admission Standard.
- Candidates must demonstrate greater academic achievement (achieve all As or equivalent standard).
- Candidates must demonstrate a level of financial need that would otherwise prevent them from pursuing a UBC degree.
Please note: If the applicants are selected for a Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award, they would not be considered for merit-based awards, including Outstanding International Student Awards and International Major Entrance Scholarships.
Benefits
The value of the Karen McKellin International Leader of Tomorrow Award is proportionate to the financial need of the candidate, which is determined by adding tuition, fees, and living costs, and deducting the financial contribution that the applicant and his/her family can make every year. A standard needs assessment is based on the financial information provided by the applicant and his/her family.
