Description
The prize rewards land use and soil management practices mitigating soil threats i.e., soil degradation, erosion, lessening of organic matter content, diffuse pollution, and compaction along with the reduction of soil biodiversity, salinization, waterproofing, flooding and landslides. In doing so, the award highlights outstanding accomplishments, encouraging new notions of land and soil safety and their execution in land management, and also enhancing awareness regarding the significance of land and soil functions.
Eligibilities
Farmers, landowners, land managers, groups of farmers, on their own or in collaboration with research institutes, universities and/or private companies. The call is open for applicants from all European countries.
Benefits
The winning project is awarded 5.000 € every year, and the Recognition Diploma is also awarded by the Jury.

This award was launched by the European Landowners’ Organization (ELO) in 2008, under the sponsorships of the European Commission (DG Environment and the Joint Research Centre) and in association with the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) of Vienna, Syngenta International AG, along with the Centre for Soil and Environmental Sciences of the Ljubljana University. Since then, the award jury has chosen outstanding accomplishments all over the European Union in the field of sustainable soil and land management.
