Description
The program accepts students in two semesters only, April or October enrollment. Students can take admission with a Japanese government scholarship (MEXT scholarship) or other allowance or their private funding. Usually, there are five main methods of being admitted to the program. They are:
- Admission with MEXT* (University Recommendation under the Special Program) Scholarship
- Admission with MEXT (Embassy Recommendation) Scholarship
- Admission with MEXT (University Recommendation, General) Scholarship
Eligibilities
- The candidates must have the citizenship of a country that has diplomatic ties with Japan.
- The candidate must be 34 years of age or younger as of April 1, 2021.
- The candidate must be able to arrive in Japan before the beginning of the 2021 Fall semester.
- Minimum 2.3 / 3.0 GPA required on MEXT’s scale over the most recent two years of your degree-seeking studies.
- For both; Masters and the Doctor course, the candidate must be in good physical and mental health.
Benefits
- 143,000 – 145,000 yen stipend for living expenses per month.
- Full coverage of entrance exam and tuition costs.
- International travel expenses covered for a trip to Japan at start of studies and trip home at the end

The candidate has to attach the PDF copies of submission documents, English Proficiency Test proof, and official transcripts.
All the original documents (Recommendation Letter, application documents, official transcripts, and English Proficiency Test) have to arrive at the correspondence address by Postal-mail (including DHL and FedEx, etc.) no later than January 15, 2021.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
MEXT Scholarship is also offered through the Japanese Embassy in the applicant’s home country on a competitive basis, which is not restricted to Yokohama National University. Any individual interested can communicate with the Japanese Embassy in his/her home country. The initial examination would be conducted at the local Japanese Embassy. For that, applicants must contact the local embassy in their home country. The entry term maybe April or October depending on the decision made by the Japanese government.
