Description

The Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program is the initiative of the Hungarian Government that aims to internationalize the higher education of Hungary to attract brilliant foreign students from all around the globe, who can establish proficient and personal attachments to Hungary with a high-quality education in the heart of Europe.

 

When the graduates return to their native countries with marketable knowledge and skills, they have the ability to build financial, political, and civil relationships, which would then contribute to Hungary’s image and recognition abroad.

Applications would be considered appropriate only if the candidate is nominated by the responsible entities of the Sending Partner.

 

Hungarian citizens (including those with dual nationalities) are not eligible, individuals granted a status of refugee (“menekült), persons enjoying protection on a temporary basis (“menedékes”), individuals admitted for subsidiary safety (“oltalmazott”) and persons granted humanitarian safety (“befogadott”).

 

In the first year of their studies, it is mandatory for the scholarship recipients to attend the course of Hungarian as a foreign language offered by the host university, and to pass an exam at the end of the second semester (excluding Scholarship recipients studying in the Hungarian language).

Benefits of the Scholarship

 

  • Tuition-free education: exemption from the tuition fee payment
  • Stipend on monthly basis for non-degree, bachelor’s, master’s and one-tier master’s students: a monthly stipend of HUF 43,700 (EUR 120) that contribute to the living expenditures in Hungary, for 12 months a year, until the studies conclude
  • Accommodation contribution: Contribution of HUF 40,000 per month to costs of accommodation for the entire scholarship period or free place of the dormitory (Please note that the student does not live in the dormitory, the HUF 40,000/month is a contribution to that rental expenses, and in bigger cities – significantly in the capital – this contribution will not cover the full amount of rental expenses.)
  • Medical coverage: health care facilities according to the relevant Hungarian legislature (Act LXXX of 1997, national health insurance card) and supplementary medical coverage for up to HUF 100,000 (EUR 275) a year/person
