The Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) ensures the learning process enriches both students and academics. The program creates knowledge, fosters academic and experiential learning, and serves Academia Sinica’s community of researchers both within Taiwan and around the world. This excellent program utilizes the strengths and diversity of its people – students, faculty, staff and alumni- to strengthen Academia Sinica’s position as the preeminent seat of learning in Taiwan. Further, the program assists in international recognition of Academia Sinica as a school of excellence in teaching, learning, research, and professional practice.
Building on a Tradition of Excellence The founding principal of Academia Sinica on June 9, 1928 was the pursuit of academic excellence. This formative principal has grown into a tradition that now describes modern-day Academia Sinica, which takes great pride in its position as Taiwan’s foremost academic research institution. This tradition of excellence is reflected in the establishment of TIGP, where diligence and the realization of enlightened goals form the cornerstone of a program dedicated to the sharing and acquiring of ground-breaking knowledge both Taiwan-wide and internationally.
To this end, TIGP:
- provides invigorating academic research environments;
- facilitates synergy between basic academic research and innovative development;
- encourages international cooperation;
- enhances standards of academic integrity and self-regulation (including formulation and enforcement of a code of conduct to prevent conflicts of interest); and

Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) now offers Ph.D. programs in Chemical Biology and Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Science and Technology, Molecular and Biological Agriculture Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Bioinformatics, Nano Science and Technology, Molecular Medicine, Earth System Science, Biodiversity, Interdisciplinary Neuroscience, Sustainable Chemical Science and Technology, and Social Network and Human-Centered Computing.
Eligibilities
- Bachelor and/or Master of Science degree
- English proficiency, as demonstrated per TOEFL score of at least (select one):

- 79 Internet-based TOEFL (TOEFL-iBT).
- TOEFL institutional Testing Program (Toefl-ITP) is not the option of english proficiency.

IELTS – generally, IELTS test score is accepted by all TIGP Ph. D. programs as an indication of English proficiency. A minimum overall Band Score of 5.5 on the Academic Test is required for admission to programs that accept IELTS score (please refer to the specific admission requirements of your program)

GEPT – instead of TOEFL. Applicants in Taiwan may take the General English Proficiency Test (GEPT), administered by the Language Training and Testing Center, National Taiwan University. Under this option, applicants must submit a high-intermediate level certificate (listening, reading, writing, and speaking) with their application.
TOEIC – a minimum score of 785. For more information about the TOEIC exam, please visit TOEIC on the web.
All above test scores must be taken within the past two years.
English proficiency can be waived if applicants are from English-speaking countries* or their previous degree is from either English-speaking countries* or a university primarily taught in English.
- GRE General test & Subject test (requirements vary by program.
- Academic transcript for coursework completed post high school.
- Three letters of reference.
- Statement of purpose.

Benefits
TIGP offers rigorous, interdisciplinary education at affordable prices. Payments of tuition fees are due upon registration every semester. Tuition fees vary by program. Please contact your chosen program’s administrator for fees’ guidance. On arrival at Academia Sinica, students will find accommodation and daily living expenses very affordable.
Once admitted, TIGP candidates receive a stipend of NT$34,000/month (approx. USD 1,130) for the first year. For students who perform well, this stipend will be extended for a further 2 to 3 years. Post the stipend allowance period, further financial support is dependent upon individual thesis advisors.
