UN Women, grounded in the idea of impartiality preserved in the UN Charter, works for the eradication of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and recipients of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the gravest, life threatening and common violations of human rights globally. In Asia and the Pacific, the levels of intimate partner violence remain unacceptably high. Over 37 per cent of women in South Asia, 40 per cent of women in South East Asia and up to 68 per cent of women in the Pacific have suffered violence at the hands of their partners. Violence against women and girls occurs at home, in offices, in public spaces and online, and can end in femicide, the murder of women and girls.
Eligibilities
Minimum age of applicants must be 25 years old, nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty station.
Education:
Master’s degree in the field of international development, gender studies, social science or other related area.
Experience:
- 60 Months Required
- At least 5 years of related experience in research and programme development on gender equality and violence against women.
- Experience working on ending violence against women would be an advantage.
- Experience with proposal writing, donor reporting and resource utilization is an asset.
- Experience working on or in the Asia-Pacific region is an asset.
English (Mandatory) , Level – Fluent

A UN Volunteer receives a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) which is composed of the Monthly Living Allowance (MLA) and a Family Allowance (FA) for those with dependents (maximum three).
The Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is paid at the end of each month to cover housing, utilities, transportation, communications and other basic needs. The VLA can be computed by applying the Post-Adjustment Multiplier (PAM) to the VLA base rate of US$ 1,651. The VLA base rate is a global rate across the world, while the PAM is duty station/country-specific and fluctuates on a monthly basis according to the cost of living.
This method ensures that international UN Volunteers have comparable purchasing power at all duty stations irrespective of varying costs of living. The PAM is established by the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) and is published at the beginning of every month on the ICSC website http://icsc.un.org.

Description of task
Within the delegated authority and under the direction of EVAW Regional Programme Manager or his/her nominated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Ending Violence against Women Research and Programme Development Officer will:
The purpose of this task is to support the Ending Violence against Women unit in the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and Pacific through research; drafting proposals, concept proceedings for activities, guidelines and demonstrations; monitoring and reporting on advancement alongside support the implementation of the EVAW programming and technical support to country offices in the region.
Research, Knowledge Management and Documentation:
- Support in preparation of knowledge resources, communications and background material for internal and external use, including concept notes and fact sheets on thematic issues;
- Support planning, coordination and monitoring of research and training materials such as the costs to business studies, training materials for prosecutors and the adaptation of prevention and monitoring guidance (coordination, planning and technical inputs and review) (implemented by specialists on contract);
- Support, review, contribute to, and edit research and knowledge products such as narrative reports, research reports, evaluation reports etc. for projects on Ending Violence against Women supported by the ROAP EVAW team;
- Organize and gather information resources, including for purposes of project filing and record keeping, and simplify distribution of knowledge resources (for instance through the organization of webinars);
- Provide support to resource mobilization efforts with the drafting of concept notes, briefings notes, talking points and other documents as needed;
Project planning, implementation and monitoring:
- Support prevention efforts in the region, sharing resources and guidance, coordination, planning and support to countries, with regular coordination with HQ;
- Support the implementation of the Stepping Up project and other EVAW programming, including organisation of meetings and events, support to country offices and coordination with UN Women partners such as ASEAN (emails, calls, concept notes, terms of reference, PowerPoints, talking points and briefing notes, technical review, coordination, planning, organisation of meetings and events);
- Draft presentations, meeting minutes, and briefs for and from workshops, meetings and consultations with stakeholders;
- Support monitoring, reporting and evaluation of the Stepping Up and other EVAW programming (regional component, and in Viet Nam);
- Support coordination among countries in the region on EVAW work- including Spotlight countries- and organize dialogues based on country interest.
Use of project-level monitoring tools to track progress and inform unit reporting throughout the year.
