Description
Every year brilliant doctoral applicants are rewarded by The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation, who are registered, or about to be registered, in a humanities or social sciences program and who are doing research in areas relevant to one of four topics:
- Responsible Citizenship
- Individuals and their Natural Environment.
- Human Rights and Dignity
- Canada in the world
The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship Program would support and shape researchers into engaged leaders who are sensible about the impact of their research, linked to the truths of the societies in which they work, and open to non-conventional methods of information. The Foundation is looking for applicants who are audacious, forward-thinking, and innovative, up to 20 scholarships are granted every year.
Eligibilities
- Must be accepted into or already in year one, two, or three of a full-time doctoral program in the social sciences and humanities
- Doctoral work must be relevant to at least one of the Foundation’s four essential themes: Canada and the World, People and their Natural Environment, Human Rights and Dignity, Responsible Citizenship,
- Canadian nationals are qualified whether they are at a Canadian or an international institution
- Non-Canadians (foreign nationals or permanent residents) registered in a doctoral program at a Canadian institution are qualified
Benefits
Up to $40,000 per year for three years to cover tuition fees and other reasonable living expenditures and up to $20,000 per year for three years as a travel and research grant.

Application Process
Students need to register for an account on the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation’s application portal so that they receive a username and password (usually takes 4 business days so the applicant must be sure to complete this procedure right away – check spam folder if he/she does not see such). An account from a prior scholarship competition might still be used; log in using current login credentials or request a password reset.
After logging in, the applicant has to complete the application form in the “Draft /Ébauche” section of the Trudeau portal for applying. Fill out contact data in the “Contacts/Coordonnées” segment of the portal.
As the timeline is short, so the applicant must be sure to APPLY EARLY. Follow up with references to make sure that they submit on time.
The applicant must order any mandatory transcripts right away, and they would need to upload certified transcripts covering all of the post-secondary education in one PDF file as per the instructions of the Trudeau application. Before submitting, the applicants have to make that the application is complete.
IMPORTANT: Applicants have to check in with their department about their internal deadline instantly as there is a quota in place for this competition.
